Interior Door Tuning, Slab Planing, and Structural Latch Mortising
When residential doors rub against head jambs, bind along latch stiles, or fail to latch without shoulder pressure, quick cosmetic fixes always fail. Shaving the bottom edge of an interior door without squaring the jamb leaves out-of-plumb margins and uneven air gaps that let drafts through.
Ivan Petrov removes the door slab, checks diagonal square with framing gauges, and bores out stripped screw mortises in the jamb framing. We plug failed screw holes with hardwood birch dowels glued under pressure, plane binding contact stiles with precision hand and power planers, and remount the assembly with three-inch hardened steel framing screws driven through the jamb into structural jack studs. Strike plates are recessed flush with hand chisels for crisp latching.
